Having discovered my ancestral roots in West Africa through an AncestryDNA test, I decided to go back to the region to conduct a “Servant Leadership Initiative.” For five days I taught English as second language, which I was “linguistically scaffolded” in French and the indigenous language of Ewe. I taught of 400 children at several primary level, four hour at one school and four hours at another. I felt a sense of community with and belonging amongst those with whom I now had a new cultural-ethnic bond. The participants of the Cultural Legacy Project will design their own Servant Leadership Initiative, once they get their AncestryDNA results. So stay tuned.
